The Elders of South Side Music Legacies
The goal of this project is to provide percussion and voice lessons for the elderly. Our team of highly-skilled and community-rooted instructors will travel to four community centers and homes for the elderly across the South Side of Chicago with the goal of connecting them back to the legacy of music they helped to create and support. Four lessons will be provided in each facility spanning the music genres deeply-rooted in Chicago’s history: blues, jazz, soul, gospel, funk, R&B, etc. Special attention will be put on upholding elders’ stories and life experiences influenced by the musical styles they felt have been critical to their individual and community identity.
