2022 Newcastle Toy Run and Family Day
The Newcastle Toy Run is the oldest annual event of its kind in Australia The event commenced in 1978 with around 20 bikes. The 2021 ride drew an estimated 10,000 enthusiasts from Newcastle and beyond overall .With countless spectators assembling along the 25km route and several thousand attendees enjoying event festivities at the end location of Wickham Park. 2022 (the 45th) will have a costume theme with participants encouraged to dress up and participate.
The purpose of the Toy Run is to provide gifts and support for disadvantaged families in the immediate Newcastle/Lake Macquarie and Hunter Valley area and has raised over $400,000 in cash donations and toys in just the last 7 years.
The Bikers for Kids Newcastle Toy Run believes in the value of everyone in the community and seeks to provides the opportunity for all to contribute and belong. Especially around Christmas, where seasonal stresses and financial pressures may highlight inequality within the community.
With a strong emphasis on volunteering, community spirit, fundraising and donation, this event demonstrates civic participation and a community that cares and looks after each other. The range of ages of spectators, families attending the event, riders means there is a mix of intergenerational activities and interactions.
For the riders, participating in a purposeful ride with a group of others that share their passions for both motorcycles and generosity builds a sense of belonging and provides opportunities for social interaction.

The culmination of the ride at the Wickham Park will be activated by a showcase of thousands of decorated motorcycles, awards and presentations, fundraising efforts, music, entertainment, children’s amusements, market stalls, foods, drinks and vibrant atmosphere.
Appealing to both the riders and spectators, with the public space being designed to be welcoming and inclusive.
