SILC - Operation Flinders
Seaford Independent Learning Centre (SILC) provides a flexible adult learning program for young people on the Fleurieu Peninsula who are unable to connect with a mainstream education.
Our young people come from diverse backgrounds and often face challenges with family life, community connection and mental health.
Operation Flinders provides young people aged roughly 14-18 with opportunities to develop team skills, personal strengths, and resilience, as well as learning bush survival skills and enjoying exciting challenges while walking in the Flinders Ranges. Thousands of young South Australians have participated in past years, many finding the experience rewarding and even lifechanging.
Activities will include:
Bush cooking and camping
Aboriginal cultural interaction
Abseiling or High Ropes course
Learning navigation and other bush skills
Long days of walking and talking, time for discussions about future directions, current concerns, problem solving and life choices.
We are planning on taking 10 of our young people on the program later this year and are looking to the community to support our cause.
