Congratulations to our July 2024grant recipient. We chose this application because we are committed to encouraging reading in our community.

Jessie Young, librarian at Eastern Heights Elementary School, describes the importance of this project. "Our school has the chance to host a visit by author Ruth Chan, through coordination with a local bookstore, Red Balloon! She will discuss her new graphic memoir, Uprooted, with all fourth and fifth graders. This event would help us kick off the school year with literary enthusiasm! Students will see that authors are real people who draw inspiration from their own lives. They will learn more about the writing process through the graphic format so many of them love."
