Bee University NYC

We are excited that our December 2024 grant was awarded to Bee University NYC (Bee-U), a community-driven nonprofit based in Staten Island that inspires environmental stewardship and fosters the next generation of green leaders through urban beekeeping. With a focus on education, sustainability, and environmental justice, Bee-U offers unique programs like the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship and Hive Experiences. Bee-U connects people from across New York City to the wonders of pollinators while empowering underrepresented groups in the green economy. From free events to innovative partnerships, Bee University NYC is creating a buzz for a more sustainable future.

Do you want to get involved?

  • Apply for the Urban Beekeeping Fellowship: The Urban Beekeeping Fellowship is a transformative paid program for youth ages 16-24 designed to empower underrepresented groups in the green economy. Fellows learn the art and science of beekeeping while exploring environmental justice and sustainability issues in their communities. The Fellowship application is released in March and you can apply directly on their website.
  • Sign up for a Hive Experience: Bee University NYC Hive Experiences are unique, hands-on workshops designed to connect people of all ages (8 and older) with the fascinating world of honeybees. These one-time experiences provide an educational and interactive opportunity to learn about beekeeping, honeybees' essential role in our ecosystem, and the delicious diversity of honey. Participants can gear up with protective suits and step into a beekeeping area to observe live honey bees in action. Hive experiences are available from May - September and can be booked here starting in March.
  • Donate: Your donation to Bee University NYC directly supports their mission to empower the next generation of green leaders and promote environmental stewardship through urban beekeeping. With your help, Bee-U can continue to provide innovative programming, maintain their hives and pollinator gardens, and create meaningful opportunities for underserved communities.
