Sew BK-NYC

Our February grant has been awarded to Sew BK-NYC, a new initiative from Black Girls Sew, a non-profit that envisions a world where every individual, regardless of background, has equal access to sewing and design spaces. Sew BK-NYC is a mobile version of their programming that will reach neighbors beyond Bedford Stuyvesant, where their current studio is located.

In the spring of 2025, in partnership with the Brooklyn Museum, Black Girls Sew will take their sewing classes and mending & repair workshops to marginalized neighborhoods to continue to spread a love for sewing and begin to foster a love for repair & sustainability. There are currently plans for 4 pop-ups throughout the coming year and the AwesomeNYC grant will help pay for additional sewing machines for this mobile program.
