Liverpool Community Radio

At Liverpool Community Radio (LCR FM), we’re all about amplifying local voices and creating real opportunities for people in our community. Based in Kensington—one of Liverpool’s most disadvantaged areas—we’re a volunteer-powered station that gives people a platform to tell their stories, share their passions, and build skills for life.

We currently support over 80 volunteers, including people with disabilities, additional learning needs, and mental health challenges. They produce shows, run events, support community outreach, and help make LCR FM the vibrant, inclusive space it is.

With £500 from the Awesome Foundation, we’d boost the work our volunteers do by covering travel expenses, supplying refreshments to keep everyone fuelled and feeling valued, and providing the right equipment kits so they can confidently fulfil their roles—whether that’s recording, editing, presenting, or running workshops. We’d also create some thank-you packs to celebrate their contribution and run a Volunteer Skills Day, complete with creative workshops, mentoring sessions, and guest speakers to inspire and upskill our brilliant team.

This small grant would make a big difference—helping us remove barriers, reward commitment, and continue building a station where everyone, no matter their background, has the chance to thrive and be heard.

We believe community radio is awesome—and our volunteers are at the heart of it.
