Naxos OD
Naloxone is a life-saving drug that can reverse an opioid overdose. It comes in a nasal spray form that can be administered by anyone, and it is accessible to anyone. The problem is that when someone observes an opioid overdose, if they do not have naloxone, they may be hesitant to call 911 for help out of fear. In fact, approximately 40% of overdose deaths occur with a bystander present who does not call 911. In St. Joseph county, that means approximately 20 people died las year out of bystander fear of calling 911.
Naxos Neighbors has designed an app, Naxos OD, that provides opioid overdose observers with an anonymous, one button press to connect with a trained neighbor responder, ready to administer naloxone in a matter of minutes. Responders can also provide addiction resources and support for the person in need. Naxos OD is planning a release in the South Bend, IN area in August 2021.
Naxos Neighbors is currently beta testing Naxos OD and is working closely with Oaklawn to beta test with their clients starting in June. In addition, Oaklawn is partnering with us to offer a naloxone training referral process for our app users. Finally, six Oaklawn recovery coaches are working to bring the app to their clients when we are ready to launch.
