Spark/Pride 2022
The Spark/Pride event is an exciting, first-time collaboration between two new South Hills, volunteer-led community groups—Dormont Arts and the Dormont LGBTQ Community Committee.
Beginning in 2021, Spring Spark was a walkable art tour hosted by Dormont Arts, celebrating Dormont and supporting artists and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was a welcomed break for the South Hills community who, like most people in the world, had been experiencing the significant impact of isolation during the pandemic. The show culminated in a one-day street party featuring outside dining from local businesses, outdoor arts activities, and live music from Dormont musicians.
This year, Dormont Arts partnered with the Dormont LGBTQ Community Committee to present a community event called Spark/Pride that will act as a culmination of the Spring Spark art showcase, while celebrating the vibrant diversity in the Dormont community.
Spark/Pride will be the largest Pride event that Dormont has ever hosted, welcoming hundreds of people from the community to Dormont’s vibrant Potomac Avenue business district. The street will be closed to traffic, allowing community members to safely enjoy a family-friendly afternoon of visual arts featured in local businesses, LGBTQ-friendly entertainment, music, vendors, food, and much more.
Spark/Pride will also feature the Dormont debut of two local bands; recent WYEP Pittsburgh Artist of the week, Royce; and Trailheads, who have gained fame on the local festival circuit and in clubs in Pittsburgh and beyond.
