This production of Jesus Christ Superstar would exclusively feature a Transgender and Non-Binary cast of artists at Point Park.

Both within our school as well as in the professional world, transgender performers are frequently passed up solely for being trans, or for not looking exactly like their cisgender counterparts. They also run into problems with only being cast in very specific kinds of roles due to their appearance or voice, and are not given opportunities to branch out. I want to create a piece for transgender actors by a transgender director with the goal of creating an opportunity for these students to play types of roles they wouldn’t typically be considered for.

Jesus Christ Superstar was chosen because of the current opposition the trans community is currently facing, in legislation and everyday life.
