Sensory Room for Special Education Students

Students with special needs, particularly those with sensory processing issues, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and anxiety disorders, often face challenges in traditional classroom settings. These challenges can result in heightened anxiety, meltdowns, and difficulty concentrating.

A sensory and calming room can offer a safe, controlled space for these students to decompress and manage their sensory needs through sensory integration equipment like weighted blankets, swings, and tactile bins, along with calming tools such as soft lighting, noise-canceling headphones, and aromatherapy diffusers.

Our school will establish a sensory and calming room within our special education program; the room will provide a therapeutic environment designed to help students with sensory processing disorders and other special needs to self-regulate and thereby improving their ability to participate in educational activities. This initiative fosters inclusivity, promotes mental health, and sets a precedent for other schools, contributing to a more supportive and progressive city.
