94 Air Cadets Pipe and Drum Band
94 Newmarket Optimist Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron has been a fixture in the Newmarket area for over 50 years, giving youth the opportunity to learn valuable skills, such as personal development and leadership, aviation, drill, survival training, and music.
The opportunities in the cadet program are endless. Each year, cadets are able to attend CFB Borden for flying opportunities, and can apply to summer training for courses ranging from 2 to 7 weeks. Some cadets even have the chance to get their pilot’s license – and all before the age of 18!
94 Squadron is proud of their Pipe and Drum Band, Drill Team, Marksmanship Team, and Effective Speaking Team. Cadets are also given the opportunity to participate in biathlon, and orienteering. These teams allow the cadets the chance to hone specific skills, outside of the regular training nights.
Cadets give back to their community, by participating in Remembrance Day ceremonies, and other community service activities, including working with local veterans groups such as the Newmarket and Bradford branches of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Squadron couldn’t function without a dedicated combination of staff and volunteers, as well as a wonderful group of cadets who give their all to ensure they get the most out of this incredible program.
While the Squadron receives some funding from the Department of National Defence, the bulk of the funding is received through fundraising by our dedicated cadets, who participate in fall and spring tagging sessions, and selling lottery tickets.
