The Refugee Doll Project
The Refugee Doll Project consists of dolls, books, lesson plans, and service projects to teach young children awareness and appreciation of refugees and immigrants. Our ultimate goal is to place this curriculum in all NOVA school systems.
An immediate goal is to train NOVA parents to use the components of the project to teach empathy. The 18" doll, a repurposed American Girl doll/or knock-off, is symbol and motivation of this project. These dolls that represent countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Central America reflect the newly arrived communities in NOVA. Afterwards, it is our hope to give these dolls to schools and libraries in NOVA to be placed in circulation.
