The Ruby Bridges Literacy Program
The Ruby Bridges Literacy Program exists to strengthen literacy among black girls ages 6-18 years old.
The program functions as a book club in the form of a peer-review system by having older participants serve as mentors to younger participants in their reading development. Students will advance in their reading skills and grow in their cultural awareness by using materials that educate them on cultural diversity. Additionally, we strive to create linkages by using the public library system so youth can continue developing their reading skills after they complete the program.
Lastly, we will incorporate a financial literacy workshop for students. The purpose of the financial literacy workshop is to develop skills that will aide them in financial growth into adulthood. Children will learn financial literacy through reading materials and hands-on learning experiences.
