Culture Coach Stage Comes to Your Neighborhood
The Culture Coach Traveling Stage brings live music, hand drumming and other activities to Chicago neighborhoods so that all can enjoy themselves without regard to economic status or where a person lives. The Coach is a mobile venue that moves all over the City and become a movable, portable stage. We partner with the Park District, Uptown United, Dept. of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, World Refugee Day, neighborhood Block Parties, the Chicago Public Library and others. The Coach opens to become a portable stage/venue that includes all the sound equipment and staff needed to provide music, theatre, dance, spoken word and other activities to engage residents all over the City. We have been as far south as Carver Park, as far north as Olympia Park and west as Franklin Park. Our goal this year is to work with organizations such as "We R Englewood" and "Mothers Against Senseless Killings" and other community based organizations that need a stage to amplify the neighborhoods and their desire to produce fun artistic and cultural events that are wanted and needed by their residents. We hope to provide joy, laughter, dancing and singing to communities that have seen too many shootings of innocent people through gang violence. The Culture Coach belongs in neighborhoods that want to showcase their own talented youth and adults. We would rely on our community partners to introduce us to the performers, and the performers to bring the audience. The performers present song, dance, poetry, theatre or other art forms of their choice in order to delight, to challenge, to serenade, and to motivate. The South and West sides of Chicago need venues as they have experienced the loss of most live venues that made it a hip place in the early 20th century. This makes a mobile stage more useful as it fills a gap left by community disinvestment. This has left young people with few artistic outlets. An empty stage invites spoken word and dancing and becomes an outlet few can resist.
