I want to improve my students' reading lives by getting a variety of reading materials by a variety of authors (especially BIPOC) into their hands. There is some funding available through the school board (LDSB) but it is limited. My students attend a rural school and there is no bookstore or library in the area. Often these students have very narrow worldviews, life experiences and interactions with others different from themselves. I have spent an exorbitant amount of my own money to expand my personal classroom library and help students fall in love with reading. Currently, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, our school library is closed, which means students must rely on their teachers for reading materials.
