UV Photobooth
We would like to set up a portable photo booth that lets people apply sunscreen & see what it looks like in the UV spectrum.
I think it would be especially useful to have at the beach, where sunscreen needs to be applied to the whole body & it’s easy to leave empty patches, and where swimming will wash off the sunscreen over time, and people are unable to check how much sunscreen they have on them after getting out of the water.
This is not a new idea, but that’s a good thing. The tech already exists and this is an achievable project. There have been ad campaigns that use these kinds of cameras, and YouTube science channels that have explained this in detail:
Physics Girl - https://youtu.be/GRD-xvlhGMc
Veritasium - https://youtu.be/V9K6gjR07Po
Nivea - https://youtu.be/0kMIkQtJhi8
This project is worth doing because we will make a photo booth that Melbournians directly use themselves at beaches, Moomba Festival, music festivals, etc.
When the photobooth is not being used at an event, David would like to set up the camera at the Royal Children’s Hospital where he works, so that kids and parents visiting the hospital can use it. The hospital already provides sunscreen. A photo booth would be a fun way to show kids why wearing sunscreen is important.
