Ellsworth Cemetery Grave Marker Restoration
Established in the late 1870s by African American Veterans of the Civil War, the historic Ellsworth Cemetery is the final resting place for many prominent Black residents of Carroll County.
Many of the historic headstones need repair and resetting. A formal preservation plan has recently been conducted and highlights 23 gravestones that “should be given highest priority treatment.” Another 29 gravestones are of medium priority. Some of this work can be done by volunteers who will need materials such as gravel and dirt to properly level and reset headstones and footstones.
