Ceramics 101
AwesomeStPaul is proud to announce our October 2022 grantee MIckey Jurewicz, new art teacher and high school advisor at Avalon School in St. Paul. Mickey's project was chosen because it supports the arts in our community and reaches a wide range of 6th to 12th grade students. We can't wait to see how these students and their teacher meet their goal of creating new and awesome ceramic art.
In Mickey's own words: "I am the new art teacher and high school advisor at Avalon School in St. Paul. We are a 6-12th grade public charter school founded on the principles of a Teacher-Led school. It is also known as a Project-Based Learning (PBL) school where the students design and create their own school work. All of their projects must follow a certain design model and meet a set of standards and credits by graduation. My major in college was ceramics and my new students want to start a ceramics program at Avalon. With my guidance, the students will research and develop our first ceramics class! It's very exciting!"
