PERIOD. Ontario's Packing Parties

Our project, called the Packing Party, aims to serve and educate our local community. We create care packages, called Period Packs, which include pads or diva cups, educational brochures, sanitary wipes, and an encouraging notecard! During the packing party volunteers will assemble these Period Packs which will then be distributed to menstruators facing economic challenges. The aim is not only to provide a cost-effective solution but also to contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing the impact of disposable products.

Education plays a crucial role in the initiative, focusing on eradicating stigmas surrounding menstruation. The beginning of the Packing Party will include a workshop about how menstruators can be more sustainable during their period. They also contain segments to learn more about menstrual health and hygiene. These initiatives are intended to foster open conversations and create a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing menstruation without judgment.

The program strategically targets vulnerable populations, including low-income individuals, homeless communities, and those in underprivileged regions. Previously we have donated to Auduyan, an Indigenous women's shelter, and walked around downtown Toronto to donate to the homeless. Our Period Packs include either pads or Diva Cups to ensure menstruators will be comfortable with the products they choose while supporting more sustainable options. Through addressing the specific challenges faced by these demographics, PERIOD. Ontario aims to create a more equitable menstrual health landscape. The project's effectiveness will be continuously evaluated through assessments and feedback from the volunteers attending and the shelters we donate to, allowing for the improvement of strategies to meet community needs.
