Global Preservation Initiative

Global Preservation Initiative (GPI) is leading a community-driven movement to confront plastic pollution and the devastating effects of commercial fishing on our ecosystems.

Our mission began with hosting cleanup events to remove trash from our environment. While cleanup events are crucial, we recognize that they are only a temporary fix, the real solution lies in building a connection to nature to see it as worth protecting. Since our inaugural cleanup 33 months ago, Global Preservation Initiative has hosted 106 cleanup events that have resulted in the removal of 11,734 pounds of trash from our beaches, parks, and community spaces. This achievement has been made possible through the contribution from 1,792 community volunteers.

To further build awareness, in November of 2022 we launched our Education Initiative. GPI’s Education Initiative proactively uses our first-hand experience removing trash from our environment to create high-quality environmental education that delves into the genesis and implications of plastic pollution and commercial fishing. Our innovative curriculum is tailored for ages pre-kindergarten through university and adult groups, utilizing pictures, videos, discussions, quizzes, storytelling, and games to effectively engage each learning style.
Over the past 24 months, our Education Initiative has similarly flourished, delivering high-quality environmental education to 2,305 students through 98 engaging and informative events.

Our commitment to the communities we serve is the inspiration behind our Lifetime Impact Report. This one-of-a-kind report simply and comprehensively showcases GPI's initiatives and finances since our inception. We aim to give our communities and funders a deep and straightforward understanding of our impact and finances.
