Head Lice Be Gone

At Molly Brant, JG Simcoe and Rideau Heights Elementary Schools, located in a low socioeconomic area, we are committed to supporting our underserved student population in every way possible. One of the challenges we frequently face is students with persistent head lice infestations, which can negatively affect their well-being, self-esteem, and ability to focus in school. Many of these families cannot afford the necessary treatment products or the resources needed for proper home care, leaving the issue unresolved and creating long-term challenges for the children and their families.

To address this, we propose creating head lice care packages for families in need. Each package will include essential items to treat and manage head lice effectively: a high-quality zigzag lice comb (which is more efficient than traditional combs), lice shampoo, gloves, and a detailed pamphlet with step-by-step treatment instructions. The inclusion of these resources will empower families to treat lice infestations in their homes without the financial burden that often prevents proper care.

With a grant of $1,000, we can produce 46 care packages, directly assisting 46 students and their families. By providing these resources free of charge, we aim to break the cycle of persistent lice infestations and create a healthier, more inclusive school environment where all students can thrive. This project will also serve as a foundation for increasing awareness and destigmatizing lice treatment, fostering an atmosphere of care and understanding in our school community.
