Starting January 2014; every month, we are giving someone KES 100,000 to do something awesome in Nairobi. Application deadline is the second Friday of each month.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Awesome Foundation Nairobi is part of the global Awesome Foundation Family which currently has 87 chapters across 18 countries.
We, the Trustees of the Nairobi Chapter are simple regular people living in Nairobi who have decided that we are going to be the change we want to see. Every month we individually contribute the equivalent of US$100 that goes into a pot to fund a project by an individual or group or organization that has a crazy brilliant idea that just brings awesomeness to Nairobi!
We don't charge any fees and do not be deceived by anyone into paying anything. This grant is also offered without any strings or attachments.
WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?
The cool thing about Awesome Foundation is that there are no set rules about what we will fund or not fund. However, here are some basic guidelines:
We like local projects: This means we are looking for projects and ideas being implemented in Nairobi. If you're doing something outside Nairobi County, we are encouraging people to set up their own local chapters to fund those ideas because you know what's best for your county.
We like inclusive projects: The more people get to benefit from your project or idea, the more attractive it is for us. We want to bring the greatest happiness to the greatest number of people. Most importantly, the benefits to the community should be visible and clear.
We like things that are possible: we totally love ridiculously crazy ideas; but we also want to know that you can achieve what you're setting out to do. If a project fails, we want it to be due to the inherent risks of the idea, not the implementation.
We like our money to move the needle: we want to see that our money has impact on what you want to achieve. Will the KES 100,000 enable you complete the project, or at least put you in a position where the project can take off? We want to make sure the money actually makes a difference to whether the idea takes-off or not, and that it is not just a small drop in the ocean.
We like credible people behind the ideas: loads of people are looking for easy money and we are not about that. We need you to show us that you have the capacity, credibility and passion to achieve what you claim you want to achieve.
We like projects that are AWESOME: Like we said before, these aren't rules, they're guidelines. We are more than happy to throw away everything we mentioned earlier for any project that makes us stop in our tracks and say “Whoah! That's awesome!”
So if you have a crazy brilliant idea that you want us to consider, please click on the link below "APPLY FOR A GRANT" at the end of this page and submit your project before the SECOND FRIDAY of every month (except December). The Trustees will meet the last Saturday of every month (except December) to consider and decide on the project to fund. And if your idea is AWESOME - we might even throw a party!!
DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A TRUSTEE?
To become a Trustee of the Nairobi Chapter, you must:
- Be over 18 years
- Be living in Nairobi
- Be ready to contribute Kshs. 8,500 every month to fund the projects
- Be ready to volunteer some time to assist with project admin work
If you would like to become a Trustee, please send an email to: awesome.nairobi@gmail.com
Additionally, if you would like to make a donation to the foundation without necessarily becoming a trustee, please get in touch with us via: awesome.nairobi@gmail.com
Yours truly,
