Labeled: Ward of the State
LABELED: Ward of the State is a memoir. This book is about my personal experience in the foster care system. It is a work of art in the form of story-telling and delivers a systematic response from the unique perspective of a child formerly in foster care, youth advocate and social worker. It brings awareness to professionals about the importance of law, policies and procedures in child welfare. It provides a perspective from a client point of view to organizations about how they can improve upon their performance goals and better service customers. It focuses on the use and importance of community resources and educating readers about their existence. Its a demonstration of self-preservation and intended to inspire youth and young adults to face their fears and live life beyond traumatic circumstances.
This book was written with the belief that individuals in foster care have the right to be independent and succeed. Youth that age out of foster care should have the opportunity to pursue and achieve their educational goals. A portion of the proceeds earned from the sale of this book will be used to establish a scholarship fund to award to young adults from adverse backgrounds that are pursing higher education.
