Denise, Mae and Michelle recently launched a ground-up initiative, kampungkakis.org, aimed at helping lonely elderly who are less digitally connected, vulnerable individuals and low-income residents who may not be aware of where to seek help during the COVID-19 crisis.

KampungKakis is a neighbourhood buddy system that matches kakis-in-need with volunteer-kakis based on proximity and needs. The idea came about when Mae was hospitalized for COVID-19 in Singapore and witnessed the elderly really suffering from this virus.

These are confusing and lonely times for many of us, and more so for the elderly without family or technology, vulnerable groups and low-income families who have been financially affected.

Sometimes all we need is a kaki we can call for help and remind us that we’re not alone.
