#SaveOurCompost formed in response to NYC eliminating all funding for composting.

Our efforts included:

• 23,000 signatures on the change.org/composting petition
• 1,000 people attending a town hall about composting
• 543 letters sent about #SaveOurCompost during the budget negotiations
• Thousands of emails and calls about #SaveOurCompost to elected officials (it was the second most popular topic, after Summer Youth Employment Program)

Through our collective efforts rallying NYers, we were able to restore $2.86m for community composting (like the farmers markets drop off sites).

Big Reuse & Lower East Side Ecology Center are now facing eviction from their compost yards, which would further eviscerate NYC's composting systems. We're continuing to fight back, with the help of volunteers.
