Georgetown Senior Community Center Game Room
The Georgetown Council on Aging is looking to provide opportunities for older adults to stay active and socialize. We currently offer several fitness classes as well as a small gym. We do see a need for more interactive activities. The combination of social interaction and physical activity is one reason that pickleball has taken off throughout the region. Unfortunately in the winter months we don't have an appropriate space for our seniors to play. What we would like to do is provide the opportunity for our residents to be able to play other social games indoors for cold weather months, rainy days, or extremely hot days throughout the year. In one of our rooms we currently have a pool table. We would like to convert that space into a "Game Room" that would include Ping Pong tables, Corn hole boards, indoor shuffleboard, as well as more traditional games, such as cards, cribbage, etc. We would like to make this space warm and inviting. We have received donations of a ping pong cover for a pool table, and a corn hold set. We are seeking a permanent ping pong table to allow two games at a time, indoor shuffleboard set, and new table top games. We also plan to improve the aesthetics of the space to make it more welcoming, and provide more of a fun atmosphere. Our hope is that this will provide a variety of opportunities for socialization and physical activity regardless of weather.
