Annual Kwanza event - Ujima Principle
Kwanza is an annual celebration of African-American culture which is held from December 26 to January 1, culminating in gift-giving and a feast of faith, called Karamu Ya Imani. It was created by Maulana Karenga and first celebrated in 1966. Date: December 26, 2024 - January 1, 2025.
Celebrating Kwanza in Newburgh in partnership with the Newburgh Free library is presented in conjunction with UJIMA (third principle of Kwanza) a Children's literacy program which is a series of programs for children's ages 5-8 that celebrate Art, culture, history and story telling through the work of African American Authors and Illustrators.
