POW! WOW! Hawai`i
Centered around a week-long event POW! WOW! Hawai‘i has grown into a global network of artists that organizes gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, mural projects, Lana Lane Studios, a large creative community space, concerts, and live art installations across the globe. The central event takes place in February of each year in the Kaka’ako area of Honolulu, and brings together over a hundred international and local artists to create murals and other forms of art.
This weeklong celebration of art culminates in a large-scale finale event. Last year, a large block party was thrown that held a fashion show, food trucks, art exhibitions, and live painting. Almost 12,000 people, including celebrities and dignitaries attended the festivities and millions worldwide viewed the events and murals via the Internet and social media, making it one of the year’s most anticipated and popular events of the year and focusing attention on Honolulu and the State of Hawai`i.
POW! WOW! Hawai‘i is all about community; the local, national and international communities. The event brings local residents and visitors together and helps bind them to their colleagues, friends and fans around the world. To create a community, the skills and wisdom of the right kind of creative leaders are needed to stimulate and develop the sense of community. This in turn will encourage economic expansion, reduce crime and raise the overall standard of living in the area. POW! WOW! Hawai‘i is at the forefront of the renaissance to help shape the direction of these plans and encourage economic development through the power of the arts.
All aspects of POW! WOW! Hawai‘i routinely strive to positively impact the environment, the community and the economy while also promoting Hawai`i's unique culture, history, people and diversity.POW! WOW! Hawai‘i has become the standard by which all other urban art festivals around the world attempt to replicate.
