Sew Loved Women's Center
Sew Loved first launched in a local community center in late 2012 after two years of planning. The program has grown over the last 5 years. After obtaining its own charitable organization certifications the group moved into its own facility in January 2016.
Sew Loved teaches sewing and quilting classes to underserved and marginalized women in the South Bend, Indiana area. As well our Center is open to any woman to join in our sessions to learn to sew or quilt, bring their own projects for help or just to work on, volunteer, etc. Our mission is to provide a positive "hands on" program for women to learn and practice a variety of life-enhancing skills, such as perseverance, patience and problem solving. Our program gives women the opportunity through quilting to explore personal creativity and to give back to the community. This program is nurturing each participant’s self-confidence and self-esteem by enhancing their success at living productively in their community, encouraging them to take their next step toward a full and meaningful life, adding valuable life skills, and helping each person discover their worth to God and the community. We desire each participant to be a part of developing a vibrant, safe and strong community with strong families.
Sew Loved is now averaging from 120 – 150 woman-visits per month; ie, each time a woman comes in for a session counts as 1 visit. All programs are free of charge and participants have the use of all machines, tools, supplies and fabric. We ask for donations from those that are able to contribute; no woman is turned away because of inability to pay.
