Cancer Support Scotland
Cancer Support Scotland is a charity that was founded by renowned cancer specialist Professor Sir Kenneth Calman to bridge the gap between medical care and support for cancer patients.
We deliver a centre of excellence in cancer care offering counselling, stress management, podiatry and complementary therapies that are tailored to every person in our care. What makes us distinctly different is that we are not a 'patient only' or an 'inpatient only' service and our help is extended to patients, their families and their carers.
People come to us at their most vulnerable and in their greatest time of need. The support we offer is first class. We help people to cope with the most overwhelming side effects of cancer, emotional distress and physical discomfort by providing a range of services.
Our Counselling Service
People have the opportunity to work with our counselling service over the course of six appointments, after which time most feel they are better able to cope and no longer need the support of a counsellor. If more support is needed the counselling sessions can be extended. In the case of someone who has terminal cancer, we may continue to provide support indefinitely.
Our Complementary Therapy Service
Our complementary therapists are brilliant and have undergone specialist training including Oncology Massage, Oncology Facials, Oncology Indian Head Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Myofascial Release Therapy, Reflexology, Facial Reflexology and Palliative Care. Each person receives treatments specifically tailored to allow them to get the maximum benefit.
Our Podiatry Service
Our Podiatry Service is very much in demand because of the profound impact some cancer treatments have on fast growing cells such as nails. Pain in the feet and the damage caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy is one of the most significant side effects of treatments. This can be so severe that it impacts on mobility and the ability to walk.
