Austin Gallery
The Austin neighborhood is considered to be one of the deadliest in Chicago, the area lacks outdoor social gathering spaces and healthy food sources. However, the neighborhood is also rich in culture and history. The goal of this project is to highlight Austin’s diverse African-American population by providing opportunities for Austin residents of all generations to learn and tell stories of Austin’s strengths rather than deficits. At the same time, we are creating a new community garden that will provide healthy food options to residents that live nearby, be a safe and productive space for the community, and be a space that is accessible to all.
** The Austin Gallery has been funded through funds honoring the memory of Mark Rogovin, a celebrated and beloved muralist in Chicago. These funds are specifically marked to support projects that benefit public art in the Chicago area.
