High School Masterclasses at Centre Film Festival
We would like to offer free masterclasses with our visiting filmmakers and local artists to high school students in the central PA region. Every year for the last three years -- except for 2020 because we went all-virtual -- we have been fortunate to host visiting filmmakers for the Centre Film Festival. Some are happy to give a one-hour off-beat engaging and inspiriting workshop to high schoolers from the area free on Saturday morning. Our first year in 2019 we were able to offer them with Galaxy and CIU10 because they had funding for busses to assist schools financially to organize these field trips to the festival. This year, post-pandemic and facing so many budget cuts for the arts in schools, the CIU cannot cover the costs of bussing the students through they are happy to spread the word. We have five wonderful workshops set up (art-box collaging by Keith Wasserman one filmmaker whose film features the boxes), DJ skills (by Corey Elbin), radio docs (with Shirin Barghi who is visiting with her lesbian biker film), and Local Historia filmmakers will teach high schoolers how to host their own travel vlog. This takes place Saturday morning in Philipsburg's Rowland Theatre before the start of our first film.
