Bulaban Circus
Bulaban Circus is a social circus that was formed in 2020, following the initiative and perseverance of Bouba Haidar, Lebanese clown women from the Bekaa Valley. After living in Berlin for several years where she worked and collaborated with many fellow clowns and artists, she recognized the healing power of circus and theater arts and their ability to empower children individually and collectively and decided to come back to Lebanon amidst the several crises to start a social circus.
It is a place of creation and encounter, offering a creative and cultural safe space for local and refugee children and local communities in Sadnayel, Beqaa, Lebanon.
It is a playful exchange of stories, skills, and wondrous experiences through workshops, events, and performances
At its core, Bulaban circus provides the space and tools for children to free themselves from societal preconceptions, pressures and ‘ways of being’, allowing them to explore their bodies, emotions, imagination, ideas, identities, and relationships without fear, in ways that are healing, authentic, honest, and true. It is a place where inclusion and acceptance for each individual are key values. We believe that when people are able to explore and express their truth, then they will act with love and acceptance for the self and the other. Our Circus trainings consist of complementary workshops that lead the children to perform their own shows at the end of each season. We give them the space to explore and unfold their fantasy worlds, laugh, get creative, be part of a community.
The team consists of Clowns, Jugglers, Puppeteers, Stilt walkers, Musicians, Educators, theater pedagogue, Sound and Movement artists, Costume designers, and more..who are active in sharing their talents with the children and the local community in the Bekaa through play and non-formal education.
The circus tent is located in Buzuruna Juzuruna seed farm, a Lebanese association and School-Farm located in the rural town of the Bekaa.
