Bright Minds
Elevator Pitch
Bright Minds is a no-cost K12 tutoring program that supports the underprivileged and under-resourced students in Westminster. The founder of the program, Kayla Solinsky, believes that all students are brilliant and deserve an opportunity to succeed academically. Bright Minds is a personal project, because Kayla Solinsky was one of those talented, under-privileged students. She is the daughter of a Jamaican immigrant and single mother. She spent her childhood growing up below the poverty line and used education as a way to escape abject poverty. Solinsky graduated from Stanford University thanks to the generosity of Bill and Melinda Gates and the Gates Millennium Scholarship, an award that covers full college tuition. Bright Minds is a way to give back to under-resourced K12 students with educational programming at no cost in four sections: a) weekly tutoring; b) student newspaper; c) STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programming; and, d) educational enrichment.
