Children's Writers and Readers Festival

As part of Festival Fleurieu 2025 (19/4 - 27/4) we are planning to hold a two day children's literary festival. The aim of this event is to expose children from the Fleurieu Peninsula to the world of writing, illustrating and reading books to further develop their literary and artistic skills, South Australia based children's authors will present age specific workshops on how to put a story together. The children will begin (and hopefully complete) their story as part of the workshops.
There will also be a series of workshops presented by local artists and illustrators to enhance the participants knowledge, skills and understanding of what is involved in illustrating your text,
There will be two lunchtime guest speakers who will present to "children" of all ages. We have been successful in obtaining Mem Fox as one of these speakers.
Additionally, the finalists in the Mayor's Story Challenge for Yankalilla District Council and Victor Harbor will have to opportunity to either read their story or have it read on their behalf.
There will also be authors providing story telling and activity sessions for pre - schoolers to ensure everyone can be involved.
The event will be held at the Yankalilla Library and Cultural Centre and has the support of Council and Library staff.
Add in food and drink providers and market stalls selling books and educational toys and we think it will be a great event.
The reason we are approaching you so early is that we need to have everything finalised by November for the printing of our programs for the entire festival.
