Ostinatos and Looping Music Education

Students in the San Lorenzo Valley School District learn to read simple rhythmic patterns which we then use as ostinato melodies to create our own music. The students work together in partnerships and small groups to learn and teach each other how to play the music we've created. The class gets to feel the satisfaction and success of playing in a large group together. They get to share their newly developed talents with their families through performance. Santa Cruz gets awesome budding musicians.

The grant from the Santa Cruz Chapter of the Awesome Foundation will provide instruments, microphones, cables, loop pedals, and amplifiers to support this program. We love that this program develops creative analytical thinkers who are learning to work collaboratively.
