Solar Reach Initiative

Our aim is to aid underserved communities throughout the world that lack proper access to electricity by providing them with renewable solar energy solutions. For our first project, we have embarked on a journey to provide students in Africa with our self-engineered solar lanterns. Over the summer, we developed a solar lantern model that charges during the day under the light of the sun, and illuminates a bright LED during the night. We partnered with the Angaza Center, a larger nonprofit that assists students in Africa, to distribute our solar lanterns to schools in countries such as Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We want to use our lights to promote green energy on a local scale because we believe that before change can start on a national scale, it needs to start with the individual. Additionally, by helping students with their education, we want to empower people from disenfranchised communities to create a place for themselves in our increasingly technological world.
