Fluttering Wheels is a new disability-led service organization based on disability justice principles in Lansing, MI. We believe healthcare is a human right. The central program is a free lending library of health equipment for community members. An Awesome Foundation Grant will help us expand this program. We are currently seeking equipment donation and will begin to promote loans and repair in winter 2025. We currently provide these services out of our home, completely free, on a case by case basis as capacity and stock allows. Since access to transportation is a major barrier for people with disabilities, we provide pick-up services and delivery of loans. In the coming year, we will begin to offer free repair and maintenance education for mobility aids, a large-donation match service to facilitate donations of specialized equipment such as hospital beds, hoyer lifts, and power wheelchairs, and inclusive emergency planning advocacy and education. Fluttering Wheels is the only non-faith based, fully inclusive and welcoming loan closet in the community as well as the only one offering pick-up, delivery. and repair. As a disability-led organization we are experts on the issues affecting disability communities, and the gaps in services and supports. Our current and future programming reflects this.
