Innovation Project
What if there were a safe space where communities could come together even for brief respites from their daily stressors? What if this space could be found in a neighborhood where residents feel overwhelmed by negative conditions? Well, there can be. Dreamcatchers for the Soul (DCFTS) is proposing to create a shared outdoor haven where a community can coalesce, engage in educational projects, meditate, and find common solutions to their everyday challenges. The organization has identified Miami Gardens as such a community.
DCFTS proposes a Labyrinth for Miami Gardens, and believes wholeheartedly that this is an innovative concept, and one that can potentially provide the city’s residents with personal, economical, and environmental benefits.
the beautifully designed Labyrinth will feature a pathway that will wind through herb and butterfly gardens. It will be designed, built, and planted in partnership with the Citrus Health Network, Heal the Planet, Home Depot, A Construction, and the Science Departments at neighboring Elementary, Middle and High Schools. It will combine science, technology and mindfulness to promote community connection, safety and pride. The overarching goal is to reduce crime and conflict, and improve economic and social trends in this community. Our Labyrinth design and activities will focus on three vital areas of mindfulness: Awareness (inner & outer), Attitude (emotion), and Intention (focus & clarity). Visitors will have a safe, tranquil space to sit, reflect, write, and have the added benefit of developing new sustainability skills. The labyrinth experience guides us in developing the higher level of human awareness we need to thrive in the 21st century One unique aspect of our Labyrinth will involve S.T.E.M. projects where children will have an opportunity to develop apps to inform visitors about the Labyrinth.
