The Lookout Project
We are a grassroots nonprofit organization focused on educating the general public on opioid overdoses and how to prevent them. This project focuses on those whom we have noticed do not have as much access to support in our community as other people. This population includes people who have been previously incarcerated and people who are under-educated when it comes to substance use disorders. We work to train people on how to respond to opioid overdoses using both online and physical resources aimed to be helpful for the previously mentioned communities. One way we do this is by providing free opioid response kits to anyone who wants one. These kits contain two doses of Naloxone as well as safety materials due to the pandemic. These kids include COVID-19 personal protection gear, a mask, hand sanitizer, and instructions on how to stay safe while preventing an overdose in the form of an informational pamphlet. Free Narcan is often hard to acquire in the state of Michigan, so we aim to make it as accessible as possible, for as many people as possible. Creating these kits and the educational resources inside are our Awesome Project, and keeping them free would keep their awesomeness going!
