Nile Football Program Balls Project
Nile Football Program Balls Project will help the Nile Football Program successfully engage it participants. Children and young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds are a diverse group with numerous different experiences, for example, fitting in with mainstream education, may lack ambition, may not be doing well in school, may not be getting support needed at home to do well at school, compared to any other groups in Australia.
As a non-for- profit community based initiative, the Nile Football Program aims to use soccer as a soft engagement entry point to support them, give them a sense of pride and self-worth which can easily be achieved through soccer/football via the following objectives:
- Promote physical and mental wellbeing
- Develop local footballers across Western Sydney
- Promote social skills and social connection
- Increase self-confidence or self-esteem
- Develop leadership skills (incl. occasional leadership camps or retreat)
- Provide opportunities for parents to connect with one another while linking them to services through NFP events
Nile Football Program aims to use soccer as a soft engagement entry point for children and young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds across Western Sydney.
The ultimate goal for the Nile Football Program using soccer as an engagement strategy is perhaps to ensure that these children and young people are meaningfully engaged to become productive members of the Australian society, more connected with mainstream Australians, and develop leadership skills necessary for their future goals.
