Urban Native Transit Project
A recent survey done by Chicago American Community Collaborative (CAICC) shows that 50% of Chicago's American Indians need access to free transit. The cost of bus/train fair here in Chicago is high, a subway ticket one way is $2.50. The members of this virtually invisible community need assistance with the cost of public transportation to and from appointments that are critical to their lively hoods. The ability to travel to job interviews or to apply for social services is very necessary, some will not go because they cannot afford the fares. Also, as we are all well aware, recently gas prices have skyrocketed. Free public transit would really reduce a stress on Chicago's Urban Natives and allow them to improve their lives.
