Art on the Ave NYC - The Heights
We are excited that our April grant has been awarded to Art on the Ave NYC, a community based non-profit that supports local artists while revitalizing local neighborhoods. To date, Art on the Ave NYC has transformed 51 vacant retail spaces into gallery displays for local artists and has worked hard to create programming and gallery walks to get people out to see and buy the art. They work with public schools and camps to bring students to the exhibitions to see art and make art working side by side with artists who give back by spending time and sharing skills.
This summer, with the support of the NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance) and the Washington Heights BID, Art on the Ave NYC will bring a three month exhibit to Washington Heights titled The Rise: Art in the Heights. AwesomeNYC's grant will support the creation of a mural that will accompany the show, painted by a local artist.
Art on the Ave NYC is currently accepting art submissions for this upcoming exhibition. They are looking for art that might spark a conversation about the concept of "rising." What does it mean? The act of rising hits differently for people with different socioeconomic backgrounds, life experiences, and privilege. This exhibition is about exploring this idea and reflecting on what it means to rise in modern times based on unique journeys.
- Deadline for Submissions: May 15, 2023, 11:59 pm EST
- Submission Guidelines can be found on their website
