My awesome project is called Shoes for Soldiers. My primary mission is to provide new or gently used shoes to our community’s homeless veterans. My secondary mission is to provide socks as they’re donated. After asking the veteran’s homeless shelter what they needed most, I was told that shoes are desperately needed. They have a little over 100 residents and shoes will help them tremendously. Besides the shelter’s residents, there are also low-income veterans in the community that need shoes, so I would eventually like to help them as well. I’m currently in partnership with some local businesses and organizations to collect new or gently used shoes. I’m doing this by setting up shoe collection points at these locations and asking for donations. I just started this project in July and I’ve already collected just over 70 pairs of shoes. This project will be on-going and I will conduct shoe drives and make drop-offs at least once per month.
