Jewel in the crown
CreativeSpice intend to run a series of 6 workshops for 10-15 attendees, (1 per week), in jewellery making for local women and children at Granby& Dingle Children's Centre, Eversley St, Liverpool, L8 2TU offered to us free of charge by Jane MacMillan, acting coordinator. The participants will work through a variety of jewellery projects using various tools and materials.
The Jewel in the Crown project is a fun and creative project aimed specifically at women and young girls. It was identified to be a solution to the growing number of stressed out mothers in need of a release from life's anxieties and to boost mental health. After speaking with Jane, she had felt that the project would benefit the mothers who attend the centre. We believe our project to be the ideal creative therapy! All delivered in a fun environment filled with music, jokes and laughter!
The link between the arts and mental well-being is not a new phenomenon. Every wellness activity in some way, utilises the media of art; it has long been recognised as viable sources to help alleviate the symptoms of mild to severe mental health issues. This activity will reduce negative feelings, encourage cohesion, reduce isolation, allow participants to integrate with the wider community and to gain new skills and potential employment . Awesome grant will enable us to buy the necessary materials. Often these mothers are single parents, thus this will allow us to offer free sessions for the already cash-strapped demography of those in the local area.
Desired Outcomes:
stronger individuals and an increase in personal agency
provide employment opportunities
Commitment to SDGs 1, 3, 5, 8, 10
How outcomes will lead to impact:
Our project assumes that by engaging communities in low-tech, cost-effective, out-of-the-box activities to improve wellbeing will increase an individual’s capacity to withstand social stressors, raise awareness about holistic mental health management and increase community resilience;
