The Get Down (in O-Town)
March’s Awesome Ottawa award goes to Frank Amisi to support a HipHop freestyle dance battle “by the people, for the people.”
“This is a 1 vs. 1 dance battle,” explains Frank, “to celebrate the culture that is ever-growing in Ottawa. It’s also to highlight some amazing women HipHop dancers who inspire so many around them. It’s an event where all are welcome to participate as dancers or audience, to celebrate music and dance.”
“I want to create an opportunity for dancers to celebrate themselves, compete, and share with each other,” continues Frank, “especially since last year was the 40th anniversary of HipHop in Ottawa, and there was little acknowledgement of the dance scene here. I really want to give the dancers a much-deserved spotlight.”
The dance battle takes place Saturday, April 6 at The Flava Factory. For more information, or to sign up, follow Frank on Instagram at @21swish.
Frank is a HipHop enthusiast, dancer, and choreographer born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He has been teaching and directing since 2018.
