“We of the craft”: Poetry for Neurodiversity
The Romantic poet Lord Byron writes, “We of the craft are all crazy... Some are affected by gaiety, others by melancholy, but all are more or less touched.”
Kendall Grady will lead a poetry workshop to uplift voices that identify with neurodiversity, mental illnesses, mood disorders, and/or other categories of psychological and emotional difference. Developed inclusively for the general public and all experience levels, they will discuss works of poetry that document the experience of neurodiversity; engage in writing exercises; share works in progress; give/receive peer feedback; and make chapbooks. The main goal of this workshop is to foster mutual care and trust whereby we can become more intimate with those qualities of ourselves which may be under-recognized or undernourished. The secondary goal of this workshop is to learn from poetry in its interrogation of stigmas surrounding neurodiversity.
