Theater for All Abilities
Help us bring Theater for All Abilities to Southeast Michigan!
Theater as visual art appeals to many individuals with disabilities, especially those with lower cognitive capacities. It creates pure enjoyment, fully engaging their senses without the need for analytical thinking.
While there are wonderful community theaters in the Downriver area, none of them offer inclusive and accessible opportunities for participation in terms of rehearsal and performance. Hands-on participation in theatrical performances increases affirmation, empowerment, confidence, and life skills in individuals with special needs. The process of learning about theater and rehearsing for live shows promotes teamwork, cooperation, a sense of belonging, work ethic, memory, leadership, social skills, and, perhaps most importantly, fun!
We want to introduce accessible, inclusive, and meaningful theatrical performances to individuals with disabilities residing in the Downriver area of Southeast Michigan. To achieve this goal, we seek to partner with Open Spot Theater to provide interactive, hands-on theater workshops for our current and potential members.
Open Spot Theater, established in the Metro Detroit Area since 2012, is renowned for providing a fun, creative, and inclusive arts experience accessible to all individuals. Their theater program is specifically designed to cater to children with developmental disabilities and adults seeking new, enjoyable adventures. Staffed with individuals trained in performance arts and experienced in working with the disabled population, Open Spot Theater provides its own props, sound equipment, and workshop ideas.
