PROJECT BACK TO SCHOOL

Creating for Charity is a NSW based group of like-minded volunteers who create, sew, knit and crochet items to meet the needs of Charity and Community groups such as hospitals, community centres, aged care, schools and other organisations supporting vulnerable people in our Community.
Our volunteer makers have voluminous fabric and yarn stashes and together we inspire ideas and create a sense of comradery and improved mental health for those wanting to make a difference and give back.
Examples of created items range from newborn premmie garments; bright sheets & pillowcases for children in long-stay hospital; winter warmers and various items for those undergoing chemotherapy or in end-of-life care.

The specific grant request for Project Back to School will allow us to purchase stationery and sanitary items not received via donations to add to environmentally friendly handmade library bags & sanitary pouches, plus provide funds for out-of-pocket delivery costs to Schools further away than our volunteer drivers can manage.

The key Coordinator of Creating for Charity is located in Lake Macquarie at Speers Point, where all items are processed and quality checked before being sent out to requesting charities, hospitals, schools or community groups.
Requests are supplied from stock-on-hand or published via a post on Creating for Charity’s Facebook site.
We have a number of key times per year where items accumulate for bulk distribution:
• World Prematurity Day-November each year: where newborn gowns, scent hearts, quilts, humidicrib belts, soft toys and beanies are distributed to various hospitals in the Premmie Day theme of Purple
• Back to School–January: Handmade Library bags and sanitary pouches along with donated stationery items are distributed by the thousands to schools in low socio-economic areas
• Easter themed donated items are sent to Hospitals or community centres for distribution children in need.
We also support services in Northern Territory and PNG.
